About the Company
Performance is Everything!
The Burks Companies was founded in 1991 by Frederick E. Burks with the goal of providing specialized facilities maintenance services for large, complex client engagements. TBC in its formative years initially served as a professional facilities consultant on projects for such notable clients as Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, American Air Lines, Tulane and Xavier Universities and the Housing Authority of New Orleans. Among these initial consulting projects included partnering with an independent facilities-maintenance service provider to provide operations management consulting for several major Atlanta-based companies’ facilities, including the Coca-Cola Headquarters, Georgia Power Headquarters, and the D&E Concourses at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
In January 1998, TBC successfully completed a merger/acquisition of Atlanta-based Partners Property Maintenance, Inc. (PPM). James M. Weisbrodt, founder of PPM, remained with TBC as EVP of Business Development. From that point forward, TBC began its expansion from its beginnings as a consulting operation to emerge as a full-spectrum facilities services provider. Initial service offerings included janitorial, housekeeping, commercial kitchens maintenance, communications/gear-room maintenance, exterior grounds maintenance, pressure washing, recycling-program maintenance and inventory-management services. TBC’s early service clientele included the CNN Center, Georgia Pacific World Headquarters, Delta Air Lines Headquarters, Clark-Atlanta University, several Ritz-Carltons, Four Seasons, and others.
In 2004, TBC further expanded its services to include a wide range of Controlled Environment Services (CES) within the Life-Sciences industries. These services included GMP cleaning of sterile/aseptic manufacturing areas, biohazard incinerator operations, lab services and inventory-management services. CES services clients include many chemical/pharmaceutical/medical device companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, TEVA, Eisai, Pfizer and a number of their various subsidiaries.
In further growth, effective January 2011, TBC became officially engaged with Howard University to assist the University in the creation of a baseline assessment for physical facilities management (PFM). TBC soon thereafter was awarded the Integrated Facilities Management responsibilities for day-to-day management of the physical plant and all campus-wide facilities maintenance responsibilities to include HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, construction management, janitorial, landscaping/grounds maintenance, pest control, carpentry, painting, locksmithing and other key facility services including the management of all facilities related 3rd party contractors. In this role, TBC established key partnering relationships with subcontracted service providers, including Jones Lang LaSalle, Johnson Controls, Inc., and management of other subsidiaries, including Al Keith Associates, and Dynamix. This served as TBC’s successful launch into the Integrated Services Management market, and continues its growth in providing comprehensive facilities maintenance solutions, consulting and other support services to its growing list of clients across multiple industries nationwide.
